Welcome back to Medieval Monday! It’s hard to believe, but this is the final week of our “First Kiss” round. Last but certainly not least is bestselling author Jenna Jaxon’s Betrayal, the second book in her Time Enough to Love series. Isn’t the cover lovely?

“Nay, Alyse. Had I a sister, I would not kiss her in such a manner.” He chuckled then grinned at her. “However, as we do not yet live as brother and sister, I believed an un-brotherly kiss would be acceptable.”

Alyse paused, wavering, then shook her head. “My lord, I pray you test me not in this manner. Give me leave a while to act with only sisterly affection.”

With a sigh, Thomas good-naturedly kissed her hand. “Aye, gentle Alyse, I will bide my time,” he sent her a quick, devilish grin, “for now.”

A little more about Betrayal:

After a night of passion with her betrothed, Sir Geoffrey Longford, Lady Alyse de Courcy is eagerly looking forward to her wedding. But when Geoffrey is forced to marry another, a heartbroken and possibly pregnant Alyse finds herself in her own private hell. She must either gamble with her reputation or marry someone she does not love.

A reputed connoisseur of women, Thomas, Lord Braeton, has dallied with many ladies of King Edward’s court, although he has favored none. Welcome back to Medieval Monday!  Our nature theme continues, and I’m delighted to feature Jenna Jaxon’s Time Enough to Love.  Isn’t this a lovely cover?

If you’re following my excerpt from Night of the Owl, you can find the fifth snippet on Jenna’s blog today.

“Oh, Thomas made sure I knew what would happen. I told you, he tried to dissuade me.” Geoffrey would never understand why she had wanted that experience. Part had been the exhilaration of freedom but even more had been her sudden desire for Thomas. “I wanted to, Geoffrey. We had been cooped up in that cabin for five days. I wanted to smell the sea, to taste the salt in the air. I wanted…an adventure. Something to remember when I was old, something to tell my grandchildren and scandalize them. Most of all I wanted…to take control of my life for once.”

Thomas glanced at his wife, expecting a glaze of terror—and instead looked into eyes filled with a ferocity he had never beheld there before. They shifted back and forth from him to the retreating figure of Lady Carlyle. So the seeds of jealousy had taken root. Mayhap this night would end in true marriage rather than counterfeit.

“Are you prepared, wife?” He ran his hot gaze over the proud form before him.

“I am, my lord.” Her calm voice held only a touch of nervousness. She had recovered well from the sight of his nudity. Given the circumstances, a truly remarkable woman.

Welcome back to Medieval Monday and Week Three of our “First Encounter” theme!

“I beg pardon, sire.” She hurried from behind the table, too aware of all the eyes now on her. As she moved to stand before the king, the low drone of many voices rose around the room.

“Impudent girl.”

“I’d not want to be in her place.”

“Do you think the king will…”

Each snatch of conversation made her heart beat faster.

What will he do to me?

Her normal embarrassment at being the center of attention tripled at the thought of this blatant lapse of protocol. She stopped several feet from the dais and the room hushed as though everyone held their breath.
