Flight of the Raven, free eBook, Judith Sterling, literary giveaway, Medieval Monday, medieval romance, The Novels of Ravenwood

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! It’s the eighth and final week of our “Family” theme.  As promised, I have the last snippet of my excerpt from Flight of the Raven. Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win the eBook, or if you already have it, your choice of another of my books. I’ll announce the winner next Monday, December 31. So without further ado…

“Lady Ravenwood wants what I cannot give.”

Robert raised an eyebrow. “And that is?”

“Love,” William said, as though naming a disease.

“She wants what is her due.”

“Because I slid a wedding band onto her finger?”

“No. Because of what she’s given you.”

His jaw tightened. “She won’t give me an heir. That much I know.”

“Well, you’d better listen to what I know. You’re happier at Ravenwood than you’ve been in years.”

Emma’s violet eyes and spirited smile raided William’s thoughts. “ʼTis fleeting, Robert. Mere moments of happiness.”

“A lifetime can be built from such moments…if you allow it.”

And there you have it!  Here’s a bit more about the book:

How eager would the bridegroom be if he knew he could never bed the bride?

Lady Emma of Ravenwood Keep is prepared to give Sir William l’Orage land, wealth, and her hand in marriage. But her virginity? Not unless he loves her. The curse that claimed her mother is clear: unless a Ravenwood heir is conceived in love, the mother will die in childbirth. Emma is determined to dodge the curse. Then William arrives, brandishing raw sensuality which dares her to explore her own.

William the Storm isn’t a man to be gainsaid. He’ll give her protection, loyalty, and as much tenderness as he can muster. But malignant memories quell the mere thought of love. To him, the curse is codswallop. He plans a seduction to breach Emma’s fears and raze her objections. What follows is a test of wills and an affirmation of the power of love.

Good news and an early Christmas present:  N. N. Light’s Book Heaven has given The Stone Awakened five stars!  What a lovely launch into the world for a story that’s near to my heart.  Here’s a snippet of the review:

“Filled with plenty of conflict, action and mystery, this is a must-read for any reader looking for a book to lose oneself in. There’s quite a bit going on and Judith Sterling weaves mythology throughout the plot with ease.”

A little more about The Stone Awakened:

Since moving to Ireland, Ashling Donoghue has tackled one challenge after another. Now the mystery of her parents’ disappearance seems unsolvable. Are they dead or only missing? No one—not even the godlike Breasals—has a clue. Hope and fear war inside her, but she’s determined to find answers and stay strong for her siblings. Even as she hones newfound powers, her banshee-in-training sister Deirdre needs her support.

Ashling could use a little help herself. She’s struggling to navigate her first romance, and while Aengus Breasal stirs her body, mind, and soul, his nemesis Lorcan does too. Both men harbor secrets about her past life as Caer. One has ties to Aoife, the scheming wind demon whose influence is on the rise.

As the Stone of Destiny awakens, so does the conflict within.

Tena Stetler’s New Release: A MAGIC REDEMPTION

A Demon's Witch, A Magic Redemption, A Vampire's Unlikely Alliance, award-winning books, bestselling author, Guardians of Erin, Judith Sterling, paranormal series, Tena Stetler

I’m excited to have Tena Stetler here today!  We’re celebrating her latest release, A Magic Redemption, the fifth book in her A Demon’s Witch series.  Let’s see what she has to say about it!

What inspired you to write this book/series? I’ve always had a love affair with paranormal creatures. You know the tall, dark, and dangerous types. Also I’ve been a voracious reader since learning to read and wrote stories for my friends while I was in grade school. I crafted the first book in A Demon’s Witch series while taking a creative writing class. A Vampire’s Unlikely Alliance was born but it would be the third book in the series. I am a panster and have a habit of writing my chapters out of order and my books out of order, which is what happened. Eventually everything comes together.

I, too, have a love affair with the paranormal! Many of those “creatures” appear in my Guardians of Erin series. Tell me, have you encountered any of your characters in a dream? Yes… well sort of. My characters come to me fully formed and named in my mind. Sometimes when I’m daydreaming, other times when I dream at night. I keep a pad and pen by my bed, and in my car to jot down conversations of my characters. It seems they appear at the most inconvenient times. I.e., in line in the grocery store, walking down a crowded street, you get the picture.

If you could give your hero a word of advice, what would it be? Giving Synn space will win her heart. Your patience and moral support will triumph in the end.

Any advice for your heroine? Give yourself a break. You don’t always have to go it alone. Allowing others to help you will lead you to be victorious in battle and in life.

In general, which do you enjoy writing more: description or dialogue? I love both, but dialogue comes natural to me and I love a good sparring match between characters. LOL But I love writing descriptions so readers can feel and get lost in my stories.

I enjoy both too, and as with you, dialogue comes naturally. Sometimes it feels like I’m taking dictation. I love it! What do you love most about being an author? Making up stories and living in a fictional world that I create. I craft a tale to whisk my readers away from their ordinary, stressful world into a magical romantic fantasy with a touch of mystery and suspense that they won’t want to leave.

Yes, there’s so much stress these days. It’s wonderful to know we can help readers escape whatever’s troubling them. But let’s forget about the world’s woes for a moment; Christmas is almost here! How do you plan to celebrate? We usually attend fantastic holiday light displays, drive the neighborhoods in search of holiday light displays with a hot mug of cocoa, enjoying good food, and visiting with family and friends.

That sounds perfect, Tena!  Thanks so much for joining me today.  You and your characters are always welcome, and I wish you great success with your new release.

A little more about A Magic Redemption:

Synn, a demon, carries extraordinary magic and power, but there is more within her than she dreams. Kidnapped as a child, her captors murdered her family and forced her into training as a warrior assassin.

When an assignment goes horribly wrong, she finds herself at the mercy of the friends and family of her intended target. Offering valuable information in exchange for protection, she gains her freedom, but it is not without its challenges.

Gavin Shaughnessy is the publican at his family’s Irish pub. He is certain Synn is meant to be his and isn’t bothered by her past. He must find a way to convince her their future together is stronger than the dark memories that haunt her dreams.

When her past comes calling for revenge, will their love survive the raging inferno she brings down upon them? Or will the searing path of destruction destroy all they hold dear?

A peek inside the pages:

Darkness engulfed her. The voices in her head returned calling her a traitor suggesting retribution would be sweet and exacted soon. She fought against the words and covered her ears. As suddenly as the booming words came, it was silent. The dream shifted to a dank room, without windows, or light, and a darkness she could almost feel. Scraping sounds against a large wooden plank door grated on her nerves.

Magic failed her leaving her drained and unresponsive. She curled up in a fetal position. Baltizar’s voice whispered again in her mind. “I still control you. They’re all going to die a horrible death at my hands. You will get to watch. Just like when you failed to save your family.”

His wicked laugh echoed though her mind and faded. A warm liquid flowed over her hands. She looked down. They were covered in blood. Bodies were strewn over what looked like the dirt floor of a cave. Screaming, she awoke soaked with sweat, head pounding and blood trickled from her palms where her finger nails had sliced through the skin.

A loud bark came from the foot of her bed. She stumbled out of bed and rushed to Storm’s crate, knelt, and yanked open the door. A warm, fur ball bounded into her lap, the dog covered her face with kisses. She sat on the floor, tears streaming down her face dripping on the soft fur she buried her face in.

Never allowed to cry, she allowed the flood gates open, and cried for her family, mistakes made, decisions forced upon her, and wished she’d died in the battle with Baltizar. She wouldn’t be responsible for the deaths of her new friends, Gavin and his family, or Storm.

More about Tena:

Tena Stetler is a best-selling author of award winning paranormal romance. She has an over-active imagination, which led to writing her first vampire romance as a tween to the chagrin of her mother and delight of her friends. After many years as a paralegal, then an IT Manager, she decided to live out her dream of pursuing a publishing career.

With the Rocky Mountains outside her window, she sits at her computer surrounded by a wide array of witches, shapeshifters, demons, faeries, and gryphons, with a Navy SEAL or two mixed in telling their tales. Her books tell stories of magical kick-ass women and mystical alpha males that dare to love them. Travel, adventure and a bit of mystery flourish in her books along with a few companion animals to round out the tales.

Colorado is home; shared with her husband of many moons, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-five-year-old box turtle. When she’s not writing, her time is spent kayaking, camping, hiking, biking or just relaxing in the great Colorado outdoors. During the winter you can find her curled up in front of a crackling fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn.

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! It’s Week Seven of our “Family” theme, and I’m excited to feature an excerpt from Cathy and DD MacRae’s The Highlander’s Crusader Bride, the third book in the Hardy Heroines series.  Don’t you love the cover?!

If you’re following my excerpt from Flight of the Raven, you can find the seventh snippet on Cathy’s blog: https://www.cathymacraeauthor.com

Be sure to visit and leave a comment for a chance to win a digital copy of Flight of the Raven or your choice of another of my books.  Next week, I’ll have the eighth and final snippet right here on my blog.

Now, let’s enjoy Cathy’s seventh snippet:

Bram slanted her a look from the corner of his eyes.

“In exchange for the fun we will have, I will expect ye to mind yer table manners, try at least two bites of any new food I offer ye, and to speak when something momentous is on your mind.”

Bram slewed around in the chair, facing Caelen. “Da, if Bela marries ye, will she be my ma?”

“Aye,” Caelen replied, sending Arbela a look over the lad’s head. “It doesnae mean we have forgotten yer ma.”

Catch last week’s excerpt here: http://ruthacasie.blogspot.com

Follow her to the final excerpt here: https://www.cathymacraeauthor.com

Don’t forget: commenters each week will be entered into a drawing for a free digital copy of The Highlander’s Crusader Bride!

A little more about the book:

Born in the Holy Land only a few years after the Third Crusade, half-Armenian, half-Scot Arbela MacLean is a true daughter of the desert, beautiful and untamed. Trained to be a warrior to avoid her gentle mother’s fate, Arbela has honed her skills with Turkish bow and arrow, sword and throwing darts—and dreads the day her father choses a man for her to marry.

After more than thirty years in the Holy Land, Donal MacLean, Baron of Batroun, is recalled to Scotland, the last son available to take up leadership of clan MacLean. He brings with him knights, treasure, trade—and a daughter of marriageable age.
Caelen MacKern, known as the Bull of the Highlands, is cynical about women. His first marriage formed an alliance, and he did not grieve when his spoiled, immature bride passed away. He has agreed to marry again—against his better judgement—for the men, means and coin to recover from a devastating pestilence that all but wiped out his clan.

Though more than a little resentful at finding himself forced to remarry, Caelen’s proposal to Donal MacLean’s headstrong daughter nevertheless piques her interest. Each will receive what they want most from life—the ability to live as they please without interference from a meddling spouse. But their marriage of indifference will soon change to one of passion that neither Arbela nor Caelen could have predicted.
