Now, let’s enjoy Ruth’s fourth snippet:

He stilled her trembling hand. Her brows creased in pain over eyes that stared off without seeing. He waited.

“I find it difficult to comprehend we’ll not see Richard again.” Laura’s voice choked and she shrugged with resignation despite tears that threatened at the edges of her eye.

“Me as well,” Jamie said. He had the same thoughts.

“How long are you staying with us?” Her question was reasonable but he dreaded answering.

“I return to Caerlaverock tomorrow.” He took a deep breath and saw a momentary flash of disappointment in her eyes.

Follow Ruth to next week’s snippet (July 22) here: https://www.cathymacraeauthor.com

A little more about the book:

Laura Reynolds is in love with her long-time friend, Jamie Maxwell Collins. She adores his playful sense of humor, caring nature as well as his strong sense of family and honor.

Jamie lives across the border in Scotland. Outwardly carefree, he hides a dark secret. He can’t involve Laura in this deception. He can’t give her hope for a future together.

Laura stumbles upon Jamie’s secret. In her heart of hearts she knows Jamie is innocent. Their relationship in tatters and with no hope of reconciliation, she plays a deadly game to exonerate Jamie, she agrees to a political marriage. She has no idea the entire game has been orchestrated by her future husband, Jamie’s greatest enemy.

Bambi Lynn, excerpt, historical romance, Judith Sterling, literary giveaway, Medieval Monday, medieval romance, Shadow of the Swan, The Novels of Ravenwood, The Valiant Viking

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! Our theme of “Bad Guys” continues, and today I’m featuring the inimitable Bambi Lynn’s work, The Valiant Viking.

If you’re following my excerpt from Shadow of the Swan, you can find the second snippet on Bambi’s blog. Remember to leave a comment there for a chance to win digital copies of the first three books in The Novels of Ravenwood series! Here’s the link: www.bambilynnblog.wordpress.com

Now, let’s check out Bambi’s third snippet:

“Boddi!”

She recognized Rolf’s voice and tried to snatch away from her captor’s meaty fist as he approached them. Red gripped her arm in a vice so strong she feared the bone would snap.

“I thought you had turned tail and sailed for home.” He stopped before them, effortlessly hauling a struggling Wulf. Her baby brother’s hands were tied behind him, or he might have been too much for a man of lesser strength than Rolf.

“Rolf Bloodhands. We thought you perished with the rest of the king’s crew.”

Kaylla did not miss the clench of Rolf’s fists, the flush of his cheeks. Still, he kept his tone light.

He handed Wulf off to Stumpy. “Stake your claim as you will, but put the boy with the others.”

A little more about The Valiant Viking:

Can a foundering seaside village survive the onslaught of marauding Vikings bearing down on them?

Desperate to save her village from a band of Norsemen sweeping down the coastline, Kaylla catches her first ray of hope when she discovers one of the pillaging heathens washed ashore. Perhaps they can use this captive to bargain for the safety of their village. Rolf Bloodhands, sole survivor of a traitorous attack on his king’s fleet, assures her that his kinsmen will not spare the easy conquest of their waning village for the life of one man. Instead he teaches them the basics of defense and combat with the meager weapons they have available. If they fail to stave off the invaders, the few villagers left will either be killed or enslaved.

With only two days to prepare for an invasion sure to decimate her village, Kaylla is shocked by her attraction to the hunky Norseman she has enslaved. Who knew fear of imminent death could drive an innocent woman to explore the oldest sins known to man.

A HIghland Moon Enchantment, A Tale from the Order of the Dragon Knights, Dragon Knight's Axe, excerpt, Judith Sterling, literary giveaway, Mary Morgan, Medieval Monday, medieval romance, Shadow of the Swan, signed print copy, The Novels of Ravenwood

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! Today, I’m featuring the work of my dear friend, Mary Morgan. Our “First Encounter” theme continues, and we’ll get a peek at A Highland Moon Enchantment, A Tale from the Order of the Dragon Knights.

If you’re following my excerpt from Shadow of the Swan, you can find the eleventh snippet on Mary’s blog. Remember to leave a comment there for a chance to win a signed print copy of the book! Here’s the link:  https://www.marymorganauthor.com/blog

Now, let’s enjoy Mary’s eleventh snippet:

Quickly mounting his own horse Desmond gave a curt nod to Alastair, and they proceeded to follow the lass. Silently approaching the area where the battle took place, Ailsa dismounted and crouched down behind a large pine. Tam stayed with the horses while Alastair and Desmond both scanned the area. Evidence of the battle lay strewn everywhere. Shields, swords, and dead men scattered across the ground. Yet, the enemy was nowhere to be seen.

Ailsa started forward, and Desmond pulled her back against the tree. Her eyes blazed with fury, but he held up a finger in warning. He bent his head near her ear. “Let Alastair make sure all is secure. For all we ken, they may be hiding in the brush.”

Fear reflected briefly in her features, but the lass quickly masked the emotion. Swallowing, she nodded. Releasing his hold, he watched as Alastair knelt and placed his hand upon the ground. Several moments passed before he stood and motioned them forward.

Making their way to the dead men, Ailsa ran toward an older man slumped against a boulder. Desmond was instantly at her side.

Follow along next week on Cathy’s blog https://www.cathymacraeauthor.com/bits-n-bobs-author-blog and leave a comment for a chance to win a signed print copy of A Highland Moon Enchantment.

A little more about the book:

You first met this warrior in Dragon Knight’s Axe, Order of the Dragon Knights, Book 3

Irish warrior, Desmond O’Quinlan has never surrendered his heart to any woman. He has no wish to have his soul tortured by love. Yet, the moment he locks gazes with Ailsa, his fate is destined for an adventure he never fathomed. He may have battled alongside a Dragon Knight, but his greatest challenge will come from within his own heart.

Ailsa MacDuff, a warrior among her clan, has no desire to have a man chain her to a life of obedience. However, that is before she meets Desmond. The temptation to allow this warrior inside her heart is a risk she dares to take, but one that could lead to a future of emptiness and sorrow.

When betrayal looms from within, the battleground of love is no match for these two warriors. Can the power of a Highland full moon be strong enough to unite or destroy them?

Ashley York, award winning author, Curse of the Healer, excerpt, Judith Sterling, literary giveaway, Medieval Monday, medieval romance, Shadow of the Swan, The Novels of Ravenwood

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! I’m excited to have award-winning author Ashley York here today. We’re featuring her medieval romance, Curse of the Healer.

If you’re following my excerpt from Shadow of the Swan, you can find the tenth snippet of Robert and Constance’s first encounter on Ashley’s blog. Remember to leave a comment there for a chance to win a signed print copy of the book! Here’s the link: https://www.ashleyyorkauthor.com/blog

Now, let’s enjoy Ashley’s tenth snippet:

“I do.” His voice, no more than a whisper.

A tentative caress to her breast and her nipples tightened, painfully. His open palm running across that sensitive area increased the heat beneath her skirt. She squirmed under his ministrations as he cupped one breast and then the other. Grasping and releasing. The tension bloomed into pleasure and she exhaled.

“A lovely night.” He moved back to her ear, his warm breath making her heart beat faster. “And we are of the same mind.”

She nodded, pressing her breasts against the eager hands that stroked her, blessedly soothing.

“I’ve a great need for ye, Aednat.” His husky whisper intensified her longing.

A hand caressing her backside urged her closer. She molded herself to him, allowing her breasts to be more fully grasped in his hands, the heat becoming nearly unbearable. His persistent mouth suckling at the crook of her neck sent waves of delight through her body, settling between her legs.

Follow along next week when she’s visiting Cathy MacRae’s blog.

A little more about the book:

After the death of Brian Boru in 1014, a legend arose of a healer so great she could raise a man from the dead, with a power so strong it could make any warrior the next high king of Éire…and to steal it away from her, he need only possess her.

Fated to be a healer…

Aednat has spent her entire life training to be the great healer, knowing she must remain alone. When she meets Diarmuid, the intense attraction she feels toward him shakes her resolve to believe in such a legend. If she gives in to the passion he ignites in her, can she settle for being less?

Destined to be his…

Diarmuid of Clonascra is renowned for his bravery in battle. Only one thing daunts him: the prospect of taking a wife. The safest course would be to keep his distance from Aednat, the bold, headstrong healer who’s far too tempting for his peace of mind. But his overking orders him to protect her from a group of craven warriors intent on kidnapping her to steal her power.

What starts as duty for Diarmuid quickly transforms into something more. Aednat’s power might be at risk, but so is his closed-off heart.

Now, let’s enjoy Barbara’s ninth snippet:

This was the traitor?

Her heart thudded and her breath hitched.

She knew him.

That strong blade of a nose, the firm jaw with its little scar—so familiar, even covered in grime. From childhood, an image flickered. A gangly, laughing squire who teased his sister’s friend.

Henry of Chauvere. Impossible! Stonehill sat leagues from his home.

But if it were Henry, he’d grown into an imposing knight.

Sam’l and Oscar finally got his arms freed from the cumbersome mail and were poised to drag it over his when he groaned.

Cathy MacRae, DD MacRae, excerpt, Hardy Heroines, Judith Sterling, literary giveaway, Medieval Monday, medieval romance, Shadow of the Swan, The Highlander's Welsh Bride, The Novels of Ravenwood

Welcome back to Medieval Monday! And welcome back, Cathy and DD MacRae!  Once again, we’re featuring The Highlander’s Welsh Bride, the fifth book in the Hardy Heroines series.

If you’re following my excerpt from Shadow of the Swan, you can find the eighth snippet of Robert and Constance’s first encounter on Cathy’s blog. Remember to leave a comment there for a chance to win a signed print copy of the book! Here’s the link: https://www.cathymacraeauthor.com/bits-n-bobs-author-blog

Now, let’s enjoy Cathy’s eighth snippet:

Carys matched his stance, not bothering to hide her disgust. “Feeding the hungry should not be a crime.”

“’Tis the fact ye poached on land that doesnae belong to ye.” He tilted his head. “Ye are a stranger to our shores. Why did ye not present yerself to the laird’s man when ye arrived?”

A myriad of emotions flushed through Carys, diluting her anger. Loss. Homesickness. Grief. Loneliness. She quickly tamped them down, shoving the sentiments into the deep space inside where she hid them away. She set her jaw stubbornly. What kind of honor did the MacLean laird have if he punished those who fed his people? He sounded no better than Edward and the cursed English.

Catch last week’s snippet on Lane McFarland’s blog: http://lanemcfarland.com/blog/

Follow her to next week’s snippet on Rue Allyn’s blog: https://www.rueallyn.com/blog/

A little more about the book:

It was over. Prince Llywelyn was dead, his soldiers fleeing before King Edward’s army. Carys, a distant cousin to the prince, herself a princess of Wales, had picked up arms alongside her husband more than a year ago. Now homeless, her husband buried beneath the good Welsh soil, she seeks shelter in the north, far from the reach of Longshanks’s men. Carys and Wales would never be the same again.

It was time. Birk MacLean has been ordered to take a bride and produce an heir. He grows weary of the lasses paraded before him, women of delicate nature and selfish motives. He desires a wife strong enough to help lead one of the most powerful clans in Western Scotland.

One like the Welsh woman sitting in his dungeon, arrested for poaching MacLean deer.

Can Birk convince Carys marriage to him is preferable to a hangman’s noose? And will the heard-headed Scot be worthy of a Princess of Wales?

From the towering Welsh mountains to the storm-swept Scottish coast comes a tale of betrayal and loss, deceit and passion. An epic tale of honor and the redeeming power of love.
