Booksprout, free eBook, Judith Sterling, medieval romance series, read and review, Return of the Raven, The Novels of Ravenwood, time travel romance
If you like to read and review free books, I’ve got great news for you! My time travel romance, Return of the Raven, is available for a limited time on Booksprout. It’s the fifth and final book in The Novels of Ravenwood series, but it can also stand alone. Here’s the story:
Margaret, Lady Ravenwood, is trapped in a loveless marriage and firmly entrenched in the medieval world. Along comes Griffin Nightshade, a historian from the future whose soul resonates with hers. He persuades her to return with him to the 1950s, but heeding her heart means courting danger from a curse that could spell her doom.
Haunted by his parents’ sudden deaths, Griffin knows all too well the pain born of love lost. He guards his emotions, but Margaret delves deep and goes straight to the soul. She’s hard to resistâŚand harder to set free.
The heart’s desire and history’s demands don’t always agree. Yet true love is eternal.
A peek between the pages:
Held in the ballroom of a nearby hotel, the after-party boasted a band of musicians, savory food, a variety of drinks, and a three-tier, white-frosted cake. After consuming a sizeable portion of said cake and a goodly amount of fruit punch, Margaret sat beside Griffin against the wall, watching the other guests and the happy couple interact.
The bride and groom took to the dance floor and moved as though they were one body, which in essence they now were. Frank and Hannah also danced, talking and laughing as they often did around the manor.
Oh to be so happily joined with another. If onlyâŚ
There it was again: the recurring, inevitable âif only.â Her nights were full of them. She lay in bed staring up at the darkened canopy, wishing he were there beside her. Perhaps Ęźtwas wanton and wrong, or by some standards, ridiculous.
But the heart wants what it wants. Hers wanted Griffin. Not just for a day or even a year but forever. She loved him. ĘźTwas as simpleâand as complicatedâas that.
He turned to her now, and his warm, brown eyes sparkled with an invitation. âShall we dance?â
Her stomach dropped. âI donât know how.â
He gestured to the dancing couples. âLook at the other women. And see that little boy and girl? If they can do it, so can we. Youâll put your left hand on my shoulder, and your right hand will hold mine. Then youâll move your feet when I do. Donât worry. Iâll guide you.â
âWellâŚâ The need to touch him, to feel his hands on her again, outweighed her doubt. âIâll try.â
He led her to the dance floor, and she did as he instructed. Leisurely, they began to move.
Always the teacher. What might I learn in your bed?
Heat flushed her cheeks. Thankfully, the dance was slow; perfect for a beginner such as she. But the gentle pace enfolded them in a mantle of intimacy.
âThis song is called âWhen I Fall in Love.ââ His voice was soft and low.
âFall?â
He nodded in silence.
Aye, Ęźtis very much like falling. Like stepping off the side of a cliff. Once you take that step, thereâs no turning back and no stopping whatâs to come.
What would come of her feelings? Heartache? âThe melody is pleasing.â
âIâve always thought so.â
She looked up at him and gazed into his eyes. âYou were right. Dancing isnât as difficult as I thought.â A grin escaped her lips. âOf course, Ęźtwould be easier in different shoes.â Her âkitten heelsâ turned every step into a dare.
His smile stole her breath. âTheyâre not very practical, are they?â
âNo. Nor are they comfortable.â She longed to kick them off and wiggle her cramped toes, but that must wait till later.
âYou look lovely, though.â
Suddenly, the discomfort seemed worthwhile, and her heart shifted to a rhythm livelier than their dance. âThank you. You look good yourself.â
âThank you. You smell nice, too. Roses?â
âAye.â His scent seemed an intoxicating mixture of nutmeg, cinnamon, and musk. âA new bubble bath.â
âI trust you had a better experience this time around.â
She gave him a rueful grin. âEasier perhaps, but not better. You werenât there.â
His eyes darkened, beckoned her into their depths. âMeg.â He sounded breathless.
Her heart fluttered. âI shouldâve made some excuse to summon you again. Would you have come?â
âI would have.â
âWould you have helped me from the tub?â
âIf you needed help.â
Everything else in the ballroom faded into insignificance. There was only him. âWhat if I needed another kiss?â
His gaze dropped to her lips. âNo one needs a kiss.â
âI beg to differ.â She needed so much more than that. Her stomach quivered. âBut mayhap I should beg for something else.â
âSuch as?â His husky voice caressed her ears.
âUse your imagination, Griff. Youâll think of something.â
He pulled her closer. The heat of his body mingled with hers. âYou really shouldnât say such things.â
âWhy not? Iâm thinking them.â And feeling things I never dreamed I could. Until you.
âIâve said it before, and Iâll say it again. Youâre dangerous.â
She winced. âAnd youâre on my foot.â
âOh!â The pressure on her toes eased as he removed his foot. The song ended, and they stilled. âForgive me. Iâm a bitâŚflustered.â
Youâre also irresistible. âI know how you can make amends.â
âHow?â
âKiss me.â She held her breath.

award-winning book, Booksprout, Judith Sterling, medieval romance series, Night of the Owl, read and review, The Novels of Ravenwood, time travel romance
Good news for those of you who like to read and review free books: my award-winning time travel romance, Night of the Owl, is available for a limited time on Booksprout. It’s the fourth of The Novels of Ravenwood, but it can definitely stand alone. Here’s the story:
PhD student Ardyth Nightshade has renounced men and pursues her twentieth-century career with single-minded focus. When fate whisks her to medieval England, she meets her match in a man whose passions mirror her own. Can she sacrifice ambition for a love she never sought?
Hugh, Lord Seacrest confounds all who know him. He refuses to marry without a meeting of minds and hearts, and no lady has even approached his idealâŚuntil Ardyth. But she’s an odd one, with unique skills, shocking habits, and total conviction she needs no man. She also harbors secrets, and in the midst of rumors, plots, and murder, trust is fragile.
A woman outside of her time. A man ahead of his. They must take a leap of faith to forge a bond that will shape history.
A peek between the pages:
Hugh stormed into the cave, unable to stem the tide of jealousy swelling inside him. A pox on Ranulf! Ardyth thought him smart, talented, kind, and handsome. She told me she didnât need a man. Now here she is, half in love with a goliard!
Her arms dropped to her sides, and she stumbled backwards.
He stopped and frowned. âWhy do you recoil?â
She halted and lifted her chin. âWhy do you look so angry?â
With purposeful strides, he closed the distance between them. âI met Lady Isobel near the gatehouse. She told me you were here, talking of Ranulf.â
âOh, she did! How good of her to report my every move, and how predictable that you prize her opinion above mine.â
âAs you prize Ranulf above other men?â He clenched his fists, willing her to contradict him yet knowing she wouldnât.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âI saw the pair of you last nightâŚconversing cozily in the hall. ĘźTis obvious heâs claimed your affections, though how I cannotââ
âWhat?!â Her flushed face was a mask of disbelief.
âYou heard me.â
âI did, but I doubted my ears. A man of your depth and perception mustâve realized thatâŚâ
His clamped fingers relaxed. âRealizedâŚwhat exactly?â
âMust I say it out loud?â
âI think youâd better.â
With a huff, she rolled her eyes. âRanulf is just a friend. If thereâs anyone I like around here, Ęźtis you!â
He hesitated only an instant, long enough to absorb what sheâd said. Then he grasped her arms, pulled her to him, and pressed his lips to hers.
Breaking free of his hold, she took his face between her hands and returned his kiss with passionate abandon. Her tongue took the lead. Her moan harmonized with the howling wind. She tasted of elderberries, ginger, and honey. Of lust and life. Heat rushed through him, heightening every sense as he gave himself to the kiss.
